How to Add a Pet Profile on Petdirect

How to Add a Pet Profile on Petdirect

You already know your pet better than anyone. A pet profile is how you let Petdirect in on it, so the food we suggest, the offers you see and even your homepage start to fit the actual dog or cat asleep at your feet.

It is a free part of your Petdirect account and takes about a minute to set up. Here is what a profile does, how to add one step by step, and how to keep it working for you. You can also follow along any time with our set up and manage your pet's profile guide.

Quick answer

A pet profile is a free feature in your Petdirect account. Add your pet's name, type, age, breed or size, and any health notes, and we tailor food matches, offers and a personalised homepage to them. Set one up by signing in and going to Account then My Pets, select Add a pet, and follow the prompts. It takes about a minute, and you can add as many pets as you like. For a full walkthrough, see our set up and manage your pet's profile guide.

Why set up a pet profile

A profile turns Petdirect from a general pet shop into something shaped around your pet. The more you tell us, the better the fit.

Food matched to their lifestage

Add your pet's age and we can point you to food made for their stage, whether that is puppy, kitten, adult or senior. No more guessing which formula is right for now.

Offers picked for them

Once we know your pet's type, size and age, the deals you see lean towards things they will actually use, rather than a one-size-fits-all list.

A homepage made just for them

Switch the Shop by toggle to My Pets and browse a homepage built around a single pet, with their favourites and offers ready to go.

Senior pets unlock Gold Paws

When your pet reaches senior age on their profile, they automatically join Gold Paws, our free membership for older pets, with member offers and The senior scoop, our home of tips and support for senior pets.

Easier reordering

With their staples saved to their profile, keeping the food and treats they love on hand is simple, and pairs neatly with Autodeliver so they never run out.

The whole family in one place

Have more than one pet? Add each of them and switch between their profiles whenever you shop, so everyone gets what suits them.

How to add a pet profile

Everything starts in My Pets. Sign in to your Petdirect account first, then follow these steps. Anything marked optional can be skipped now and added later.

Prefer to follow along on screen?

Our set up and manage your pet's profile guide walks you through every step visually, so you can see exactly what each screen looks like as you go.

1

Open My Pets

Select Account at the top right of any page, then choose My Pets to see all your pets in one place.

2

Select Add a pet

On the My Pets page, find the Add a pet button below your current pets to start a new profile.

3

Tell us their name

Pop in your pet's name, then select Next.

4

Pick the type of pet

Choose dog or cat, then select Next. This shapes everything we show you from here.

5

Add gender and weight

Pick their gender and pop in their weight, then select Next. Weight helps with portion and product suggestions later.

6

Add their breed, or set a size

Start typing to add their breed. For a mixed breed you can add up to three, and if one is unknown, add the breed you know and enter Cross for the rest. Not sure of the breed at all? Choose a size instead and slide to how big they will be fully grown, from toy to giant.

7

Add their age

Enter a date of birth or an age. This one is worth doing, because it unlocks offers and food matched to their lifestage, and it is what triggers Gold Paws once a pet reaches senior age.

8

Add health details (optional)

Note any health concerns or prescription medication if you would like more tailored suggestions, or skip ahead with Next.

9

Add a photo, then Done

Upload a snap of your pet if you like, then select Done. They will now appear in My Pets, ready to shop for.

Keeping their profile up to date

Pets change, and their profile can keep up. A current weight, age and health note means better matches all round, so it is worth a quick update now and then.

On My Pets, select the Settings dropdown beside your pet, choose Edit profile, change whatever you need, then select Save. It opens the same simple steps you used to add them. Our set up and manage your pet's profile guide covers editing and managing profiles in full too.

If you have said goodbye

Memorialising a profile

If your pet has passed away, you do not have to remove their profile. You can keep it as a memorial on your account, so they stay part of your family at Petdirect. Open Settings beside their name, select the option to mark them as passed away, then confirm. It is a small thing, but a gentle one.

Shop a homepage made just for them

Once a pet is set up, you can shop a homepage built around them. Head to the homepage and flick the Shop by toggle to My Pets, then use Shop by at the top right to pick which pet you are shopping for, with their offers and favourites ready to go. Want to see everything again? Switch Shop by back to All at any time.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is a pet profile free?

Yes. Pet profiles are a free feature of your Petdirect account. You just need a free account to save them to.

How long does it take to set up?

About a minute. You can add the essentials now and fill in the optional bits, like a photo or health details, later.

Do I need a Petdirect account?

Yes. Profiles live in your account under My Pets, so you will need to sign in or register first. Registering is free and quick.

Can I add more than one pet?

Absolutely. Add every dog and cat in your household, then switch between their profiles whenever you shop so each one gets what suits them.

I do not know my pet's exact breed. What should I do?

No problem. You can add up to three breeds for a mixed breed and enter Cross for any you are unsure of, or skip breed altogether and choose a size instead.

Why does adding my pet's age matter?

Age is the detail that unlocks food and offers matched to their lifestage. It is also what automatically joins senior pets to Gold Paws, so it is well worth adding.

Can I edit or remove a profile later?

Yes. Update any detail any time from the Settings dropdown on My Pets. If a pet has passed away, you can keep their profile as a memorial rather than removing it.

Where can I get step-by-step help?

Our set up and manage your pet's profile guide walks you through adding, editing and managing a profile, screen by screen.

What is Gold Paws?

Gold Paws is our free membership for senior pets. It unlocks automatically once your pet reaches senior age on their profile, bringing member offers, tailored senior advice and The senior scoop.
