Your puppy crate should be large enough so that your dog can stand up, turn around and lie down comfortably, but not much bigger.
Although it’s tempting to purchase an oversized crate to give your pup more room, doing so can derail the potty-training process by giving your pup the space to go to the bathroom at one end while staying dry at the other.
Pet parents with large breed pups can anticipate their pup’s growth by purchasing the largest sized crate their dog will need when they’re fully grown and using an adjustable crate divider to keep the available space inside the right size.

I previously brought a size large from another store which my German Shepard puppy grow out of within five months. I had wished I just brought the giant to start with. It is big but it’s perfect for the big sized doggies.

He had tried the large (which is perfect for our border collie) but it was too cramped - he couldn’t stretch out and always had to be curled up. He hasn’t escaped from it so I think it’s pretty sturdy. Only weird thing is that they put a hook type feature which faces up under the door on one side and it’s for hooking the crate when it’s packed down - but it seems a bit daft to have it stick out like that! It’s probably easy to bend and take off but I choose not to. Hasn’t caused an issue yet.
