With Easter coming up, why not plan a fun Easter scavenger hunt for your pup? Make it a party and invite your family and friend’s dogs to join in. Not only is this a fun activity for you and your dog, but it’s also a great way to provide your pup with some rewarding mental stimulation. Your dog and their canine pals will have to use their noses to sniff out the “Easter goodies” filled with smelly and delicious treats.
To get your Easter scavenger hunt started, here is everything you need to create a simple and exciting game for dogs that is sure to add a hop in their step:
What you'll need
- Breakable or small dog treats with a strong odour such as Omega Plus, Tu Meke or K9 Natural
- Atleast 1-2 treat-stuffers per dog like these from KONG or West Paw to act as the 'eggs'
- Large space with plenty of hiding places
- Grand prize for the best sniffer, like a new plush toy, a chew toy from Tasty Bone or Nylabone, or a fresh new fetching ball.
- Optional, assortment of treats such as KONG Stuff'n Treats, Awesome Pawsome Treats or Ziwi Good Dog Rewards for all the goodest dogs.
How to Set Up the Easter Egg Hunt
-
- Fill the treat-stuffer with a variety of yummy-smelling treats. Make sure the pieces are small enough to be able to fall out of the opening.
- Hide the treat stuffed 'eggs' around the yard or dog-safe area. Place them in a variety of spots for the dogs to sniff them out.
- Ready, set… search! Let the dogs wander around sniffing out the 'egg' treats.
- The dog who finds the an 'egg' the fastest, gets the treats as well as the grand prize for best sniffer.
But don't let the pups go home with empty paws - bake some doggy biscuits for all the pups, or send them home with a chew toys of their own. Remember treat calories count towards your dogs daily caloric intake. Add in your dogs favourite chew toy or plush toy to hunt out as 'eggs' if you are worried about too many calories.
