Animal movies that are worthy of a marathon this weekend

Posted by PetDirect on 9th Nov 2020

If anyone has ever told you that you are too old for animal themed movies, they're wrong! Why not reminisce and watch, or rewatch, some of the best this weekend? The staff at Pet Direct have compiled a list of their favourites to give you a few suggestions:

Dumbo & Sing (1941 & 2016)

“My favourite animal movie as a child (the original 1941 version). My favourite animal as a kid was an elephant and I loved the story of someone who was teased but proved everyone wrong. My favourite as an adult with kids would be sing. Fun and again about characters reaching full potential.”

- Debbie

Turner and Hooch (1989)

“This movie has great 80's cheese and make’s my dog look well behaved”

- Mikey

Homeward Bound (1993)

“Old classic adventure movie with talking cats and talking dogs and plenty of cheesy one liners and of course a happy ending.”

- Armin

Oddball (2015)

“I love it because it’s made in Australia, is based on a true story and features the penguins at Phillip Island which we have seen in person. The main character Odball the dog is funny, but really smart. It’s a great family movie that makes you laugh and pulls at your heart strings at the same time.”

- Cherie

Aristocats (1970)

“My all time favourite animal movie. I would watch it on repeat when I was younger, learning all the words to the songs... Plus "everybody wants to be a cat" right?”

- Beckie

Fantastic Mr Fox (2009)

“A beautifully crafted stop motion film adaptation by the genius that is Wes Anderson. It’s hilarious, heart warming and delightfully quirky.”

- Damask

K-9 (1989)

“I grew up watching a lot of buddy cop movies from the 80s and if one of the buddies is a dog, even better.”

- Leo

Dr Dolittle (1998)

“Because who wouldn't want to be able to understand what animals are saying.”

- Rich

Cats (1998)

"As a child I was obsessed with this film. I grew up singing and also dancing ballet, so this was the perfect movie for me to sing and dance along to. My parents also named their cat Rum Tum Tugger!"

- Emelia
