PMP Ear Suspension is formulated to combat ear and skin infections in cats and dogs, particularly those caused by fungi, yeasts, and bacteria. The medication contains three active ingredients: Polymyxin B Sulphate, an antibiotic targeting Gram-negative bacteria; Miconazole Nitrate, a broad-spectrum antifungal effective against Gram-positive bacteria; and Prednisolone Acetate, a corticosteroid alleviating discomfort, itching, and preventing self-trauma from over-scratching.
The dosage should be consulted with your veterinarian as it will vary depending on the condition. The following is as a guide only and shouldn’t replace instructions from your vet:
It is advised to discuss with your veterinarian if this medication is suitable. However it is typically avoided in animals with hypersensitivity to the ingredients, tympanic membrane perforation (ear drum), known microbial resistance to the ingredients, or on lactating animals' mammary glands.
It is important to verify tympanic membrane (ear drum) integrity before treatment. This product should not be used if the eardrum is perforated.
PMP ear drops must not be used in dogs with perforated or damaged ear drums. In rare cases, deafness (especially in older dogs) can occur. While PMP ear drops are generally well-tolerated and safe, it's vital to contact your vet immediately if you notice any of the following side effects: head tilt, walking in circles, sudden hearing loss, worsening of ear pain. Other side effect might include loss of appetite, vomiting, diarrhoea, increased drinking and urination.
Your pet might have some redness or mild discomfort at the application site. Contact your vet if the infection is not improving or is getting worse even with treatment.
Prolonged use may lead to local immunosuppression, thinning of the skin, delayed wound healing, and systemic effects like adrenal suppression. If the following symptoms occur, contact your veterinarian immediately.
Store at room temperature, away from light. Keep out of reach of children and other pets.
