Synthroid is a prescription medication that a veterinarian may prescribe to treat hypothyroidism in dogs. In dogs with hypothyroidism, the thyroid gland cannot produce sufficient thyroid hormone, which is required to regulate metabolism and various normal bodily functions. Synthroid contains the active ingredient Levothyroxine, a synthetic replacement for thyroid hormone.
