Fluox, containing the active ingredient Fluoxetine, may be prescribed by a veterinarian to treat anxiety and behavioural issues in cats and dogs. Fluoxetine has been used in pet behaviour issues such as inappropriate urine marking, separation anxiety, obsessive chewing, circling, and self-mutilation. It is vital to also treat behavioural problems with training and changes to the pets’ environment in addition to medication. Fluox is a selective serotonin reuptake inhibitor (SSRI) and works to prevent serotonin from being reabsorbed, resulting in increased available serotonin which helps to stabilise mood.
